he Dual-, Two-in-One-, Twin- or Kangaroo-packaging is a packaging holding two separate containers with two different products, which together form one entity in packaging as well as in product.

In 2006, Italy’s Pasta Barilla, a world leader in pasta products, unveiled its very simple dual-stacked jar package using a shrink sleeve. A neat way to offer two different sized jars in one, the shrink sleeve unitized restaurant-quality pasta sauces in an eye-catching way letting them stand out from the rest on the store shelves.

The design won a Gold Award for Packaging Achievement from the Flexible Packaging Association as well as the DuPont Silver Award.

We have already mentioned original “alter-ego” liqueurs Jekyll & Hyde, launched in 2007 by beer giant Anheuser-Busch.

Ecolab’s nested, stackable, and bundled container of cleaning solution was designed specifically for dispensing cleaning products in industrial and institutional use. It assembles a “work”-spray bottle nicely clicked in the contours of a bulk container. The consumer can refill the spray bottle from the bulk container mounted to the wall. The set, providing for more organized and safer environment, won Best of Show in the National Association of Container Distributors 2007 Packaging Awards Competition.

Chinese liqueur is usually made from blending several liqueurs of different alcohol percentage. This package from Zhen Bao Fang combines a bigger bottle with 46% alcohol liqueur and a small bottle with 68% alcohol liqueur.

Both bottles are moulded in the same style, one perfectly fitting, upside down, as closure for the larger bottle.

Wonder Tablitz’s empty bottle is a real dual packaging. To provide consumers with a complete “cleaning system,” Wonder Tablitz created a patented high-density polyethylene bottle with a recessed cavity in the front panel that houses three tablets in a polyvinyl chloride blister.

A unique dual bottle-in-a-bottle packaging was created for “Sambuca con mosca” (produced by Deutsch Krugmann), a traditional Italian anise liqueur. The idea of the design was to bring liqueur, coffee beans and a book of matches, together. These items are needed to enjoy Sambuca con mosca following a ritual which, according to legend, came into being many centuries ago.

At that time, an elderly lady used to serve her home-made Sambuca to her family. Lured by the sweet flavour, three flies always sat down on the rim of the glass when she was pouring the drink. So the lady came up with the idea of serving her Sambuca with three coffee beans. To be assured that the “flies“ were really dead, the Sambuca was lit before drinking. This ceremony has been practised ever since. Lighting the drink produces an additional effect: the raw beans get roasted in the burning Sambuca within seconds.

The bottle-in-a-bottle created by Greiner Packaging consists of two PET bottles. The inner bottle holds 0.7 litres of Sambuca and the outer bottle offers space for the coffee beans. The coffee beans can be taken out through an opening which has been stamped into the bottle wall and decorated with a label. A book of matches which hangs around the neck can be used to light the anise liqueur.

‘Hair Care Avlon Affirm’ (Avlon Industries) is a two-step treatment for hair care, especially for hairdressing salons. The new 1.8 kg “kangaroo” bucket packaging contains a “built-in space” in which a 115 gr pre-treatment bottle is stored. This merger of two packages avoids the problem that one of the bottles for the pre-treatment and the treatment itself, gets lost or is not used. Created by Tricor Braun.

One more product that we have already mentioned is Bio2TONIC from Beverage Creations. This basically ingenious packaging has failed to hit the market yet due to the manufacturer’s problems with pink-sheets.

Proctor & Gamble’s Ultra Concentrated Dawn Simple Pleasures (373 ml) dishwashing liquid soap, debuted with a 12 gr air freshener beads in the base of the bottle, held in a separate compartment. The PET bottle design — Webb-Scarlett deVlam www.wsdv.co.uk.

Shelf-stable, microwavable Healthy Choice meals from ConAgra Foods are promoted as a healthful, portable lunch option for deskbound employees. The Fresh Mixers line uses several interlocking plastic packaging components that enable quick and handy meal preparation and consumption. Each of the six varieties includes rice or pasta along with a separately packaged serving of sauce and meat.

The technology behind the meals enables the start ingredients and sauces to be separated during storage and preparation to preserve the ‘locked-in’ flavour and texture of both, producing a fresh taste upon preparation.

Iisi is an extremely simple and functional package. Opening is easy and the place where the package should be opened is clearly marked. After opening, Iisi can also be easily closed. Iisi commendably utilises the flexibility of carton. Iisi’s triangular shape decreases the need to use force when handling the package and simultaneously forms a spout at the front edge of the package. Iisi is well suited for, for example, flour, flakes, bran and rice.

Flopda is a versatile and easy to open package. Flopda ingeniously produces two functions with a flexible material: sealing and closing force. However, large opening surfaces enable opening and closing the package using little force. Flopda’s strength lies particularly in its re-closeability. Flopda is suitable for a variety of products, such as food spreads, take away foods, cheeses, jams, ice cream and frozen goods.

The time has come for you to jump into a new job or maybe even an entirely new career. In a thick pile of resumes, how do you rise from “just a number” to being “the star candidate” who sticks the landing? You know you’ve got that special something employers want, but how do you relay that message? Resume writing is certainly a daunting challenge, but there are some relatively simple ways to make yourself stand above the crowd. Be forewarned it will require an objective eye and emotionless editing, so you may want to recruit a forthright friend to help you out.

1. Keep it simple

The point of a resume is not to answer every single question an employer could possibly ask. It is also not intended to provide information on every job you’ve ever had, dating back to high school. The resume is meant to provide a hook for the employer to obtain an overview of your skills and, ideally, invite you in for an interview. Your resume should be two pages or less; its design and layout should be simple, professional, clean and pleasing to the eye. Your work experience should list only major jobs held for substantial amounts of time within the last five years or so. Consider placing education higher in the resume if you are a recent college graduate without extensive work experience. However, longtime professionals with ample experience should move education details further down the list.

2. Personalize it

There are subtle ways to personalize your resume without sacrificing professionalism. Two areas where you can demonstrate your uniqueness is within the objective statement and also within your Awards and Activities section. In your objective statement, use buzz-words like “goal-oriented” alongside more unique descriptive phrases like “award-winning reporter.” In your “Awards and Activities” section, highlight any work-related honors you’ve achieved, and also any volunteer work you’ve done, committees and boards on which you’ve served, or career-related conferences you’ve attended. Briefly demonstrate that you have an interest in bettering your community and bettering yourself, personally and professionally. Most employers know these qualities usually indicate a high-caliber candidate and can be worth far more than an Ivy League degree. “I’ve had lawyers who went to Harvard Law School who couldn’t do the work here,” said Alan Sklover, Manhattan-based executive lawyer and author of Fired, Downsized or Laid Off. “So I always look at resumes and then I go, ‘Tell me a little more about you as a person.’ Things like where you went to school and what your GPA was tend to become a blur.”

3. Know yourself

Though it may be considerably easier to hire a professional resume writing service, it is very important to take the task upon yourself. If you do have difficulty conveying your skills onto a piece of paper, a friend or colleague can better serve you than someone who doesn’t have a complete picture of your skills and the value you can offer. When interview time comes, the decision to hire that ghostwriter can truly come back to haunt you. Nobody knows your life and experiences as well as you, and you alone understand best what is resume-worthy. Before the interview, study the resume like a script and be prepared to talk about any aspect of it. This prep work will help you feel comfortable, prepared and at ease in the interview, so you can act like yourself as well. “Make sure you have a story, background, details for every sentence on the resume, and make it relevant to the employer,” said Randall Craig, career expert and author of Personal Balance Sheet career planning guide.

4. Customize it

Tailor your resume to the needs of each and every prospective employer. Yes, resume writing is hard but the importance of tweaking your resume with each prospective employer in mind – from your objective statement down to your references – cannot be stressed enough. From the job ad description, identify what that employer is looking for and structure your entire resume to leave little doubt that your unique qualifications and experience fit those needs. Make it an interesting read, which requires that you speak directly to the employer’s staffing needs. If you struggle to identify your skills with the job requirements or even border on embellishing your resume to cater to the employer, this should indicate that this is not the right job for you. You don’t want to end up with a job you will later regret accepting. Ultimately, many employers are most interested in how you can help them and what benefits you bring to their organization. So playing up your strengths and keeping it relevant to the employer can be the most important step of all in getting the interview and sticking the landing.
